About us
WT International is your go-to service provider for all smoke ventilation system maintenance.
We know that maintenance is often neglected and can also seem complicated and overwhelming. Not to worry, that’s where WT International exceeds! You’ll be greeted with friendly service and peace of mind knowing that you’re in capable and professional hands.
We Specialize in
Fusible link smoke ventilators
This type of ventilator system works by a fusible link melting as soon as the temperature inside the building reaches 93 degrees Celsius. As soon as this happens, the vent’s doors are released, allowing the smoke to escape effectively.
Electromechanical smoke ventilators
These systems work with a 24V DC electro mechanical linear actuator. It should be connected to the smoke detection system in order to trigger the smoke ventilators in case of a fire. These ventilators are also fitted with a 93degree Fusible/Link backup.
Smoke Extraction Systems
Vents, openings, ducts and shafts where the air is designed to flow from inside the building outwards is referred to as Smoke extraction. These systems take the smoke and heat from inside the building and deposit it into a safe environment.
- We inspect, service and upgrade out of warranty smoke and fire ventilation equipment to ensure that they are SANS 10400-compliant.
Things to Consider
WHY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE?
- Necessary condition to comply with building regulations
- To avoid repudiation of insurance claims
- Legal obligation as building owners
- Serves as proof to fire authorities
- Local by-laws
IS THERE A SPECIFIED INTERVAL?
- No less than 12 months
- Six months is recommended (3 months in some cases)
- In high risk situations, monthly or even weekly tests may be necessary
It’s a serious risk to avoid maintenance
WHAT IS A SMOKE VENTILATION SYSTEM:
Smoke is the real killer in fire outbreaks. Statistically, 60% of fire-related deaths in are directly related to smoke, gas or toxic fumes.
Simply put, these systems effectively vent smoke, heat and fumes out of a building, and allows fresh air into the building thus increasing oxygen levels for the people trapped inside.
Assisting occupants to escape, and providing clear access to firefighting services are also key factors of any smoke ventilation system.
Optimized fire and smoke control really does save lives
It is recommended that buildings over 500m square require smoke ventilation systems, however, it is not to say that this advice shouldn’t be applied to other buildings as well. Especially where evacuation might take time or where it can get complicated due to the building’s layout.
1
First advantage
of a well-maintained smoke safety system is that saves lives.
2
Second advantage
is increasing your building’s ability to retain its integrity against the elements.
3
Third advantage
is being covered should a fire disaster ever strike.
Services
Service and maintenance of the following:
- Fire ventilators
- Smoke Extraction systems
- Window Automation
- EM50 Fans
- Evaporative Coolers
Supply and installation of all fire and natural ventilation systems including the following:
Fire ventilators
Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. Ventilation is a part of structural firefighting tactics, and involves the expulsion of heat and smoke from a burning building, permitting the firefighters to more easily and safely find trapped individuals and attack the fire.
Smoke Extraction systems
Smoke extraction consists in evacuating part of the smoke produced by the fire by creating a height of free air under the layer of smoke.
The goal is :
- To facilitate the evacuation of the occupants
- To limit the spread of fire
- To allow firefighters access to the premises
Window Automation
Actuators control the opening and closing of different windows for either natural- or smoke ventilation. It is a cost-effective way of obtaining a smoke ventilation system with the added advantages that it doubles as a natural ventilation system.
EM50 Fans
EM50 is the ideal exhaust fan whenever extra high airflow capacity and natural ventilation is required.
Evaporative Coolers
An evaporative cooler is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling uses the fact that water will absorb a relatively large amount of heat in order to evaporate.
Louvres
A louver is a ventilation product that allows air to pass through it while keeping out unwanted elements such as water, dirt, and debris. Louvres can also be use for aesthetic purposes.
Turbines
Turbines are used where natural ventilation is required.
Maintenance regimes with a little bit more attention than a simple functionality test will go a long way to ensuring safer buildings.
